Victoria Marathon & Half Marathon -10/7/12

Congratulations to all the competitors especially to Karen Crouse, bib # 3982.

Karen ran the half marathon in the 70-74 year age group and came 5th/12, finishing with a chip time of 2 hrs 48 mins 33 sec. That’s an average pace of 12.87 mins/mile for 13.1 miles.

Back in April 2012 Karen signed up for my Rhody Run 12K training program. Initially, just covering one mile was difficult for her in 18 minutes. Over the course of the Rhody training schedule she gradually improved and successfully completed the difficult Rhody Run 12K on May 20th 2012 in 1hr 31 mins 10 secs, coming 4th/24 in the 70-74 year category. Her average pace was 12.23 mins/mile for 7.5 miles (12K)

She decided to add the Victoria Half Marathon to her “Bucket List” and set about my half marathon training schedule shown on the main pages of this website. She found the training tough but commented that all the gym workouts for core abdominal strengthening paid off. She stuck to the training program verbatim and suffered no detrimental effects other than tiredness after completing 13.1 miles. The very next day she was back in the gym to gently walk a couple of miles on the treadmill to loosen her leg muscles.

The smile on Karen’s face said it all as she entered the gym wearing her Victoria Half Marathon T-shirt and holding her 5th place trophy high above her head.
